S.I.M.P.L.E. Newsletter

Firstly, I gotta say, I was blown away by the response to the first newsletter! I love getting up close and personal, and I appreciate the feedback which was, “Kris, we want more of this!!”

Sooooo we’re keeping the party going with our second monthly issue! πŸ“°

Here's how the S.I.M.P.L.E. Newsletter breaks down!

** Story. Inspiration. Music. Plab. Laugh. Educate **

Story Time!

Last month I mentioned Jeff and I just bought a home in Arizona, which we love.

So far, Arizona has taught me two things.

  1. Arizona is the hottest place on earth πŸ₯΅
  2. Kris Bradley is most definitely an indoor cat….

Ok, truth time, here we go…

I’m more of an indoorsy gal.  I want to be outdoorsy, but it’s just not in the cards for me.

I’d say the extent of my outdoorsy-ness is loving the ocean.  But the second you throw bugs, dirt, and the idea of being attacked by a bear at me, I turn into a big ol’ πŸ‘ΆπŸ»πŸ˜‚

Which is why I’m SO thankful there were NO cameras or phones nearby when I went on my first “night hike/float” on the AZ salt river. πŸ™ˆ

Between the pitch blackness, the low humming bullfrogs, the screeching cicadas (which sounded like Predator hiding in the bushes) and the rapids which flung my donut tube into nearby branches that nearly took my head off…I felt like the whole thing was a near death experience.  Of course there were several children involved who were having a blast on their stand-up paddleboards, which just highlighted my princessery even more. πŸ˜…πŸ‘ΈπŸ»

But hey, at least it was with Jeff’s fancy doctor colleagues and business partners, so #greatfirstimpression

It’s ok.  I’m good at a lot of things. Indoorsy things.

I also mentioned we’re building a “catsita” which will be the new studio, AND a place for the cats since Jeff is allergic.  Problem is, the contractor kept upping the budget (like 5 times the amount from where we started), and it started to feel shady, so we’re thinking of going with a different contractor.  Know anyone who does renovations in AZ?

In the meanwhile, the cats are loving their cat sitter and catio, and they’ve even made some new furless friends!

Rachel -“Her name is Mrs. Whiskerson…”
Ross - “It looks like a hand!”

In other news, we just wrapped the new masterclass “Home Studio Recording Simplified,” and welcomed over 50 new students into From Voice Memo 2 Demo, and we’re so excited to welcome them to the P.LAB family!  I was super proud of this presentation because it really broke down music production from a high level, without confusing my new budding producers with DAW overwhelm, just giving them the basics to understand what music production is.

Ooooh and one more thing, because I can’t keep it a secret any longer!  We are working on a Produce Like a Boss BOOK this summer, and I cannot wait to share not only the book with you, but the journey along the way!

This book will be a combination of my stories, and steps along the way to becoming a pro producer, as well as some juicy strategic “how to’s” that will help you do the same.

I’m a total bookworm, but I’ve never attempted to write a book, so I’m excited for what lies ahead!  πŸ“šπŸ€“

Daily Dose Of INSPO

“A Jack of all trades is a master of none,

but often times better than a master of one”

As many of you know, I’m a huge advocate of skill stacking.

While many would say that it’s not good to be a jack of all trades, I totally disagree.

I think the more skills you have, the more value you add to yourself.

Think about it… who can provide more value for a client?

The most skilled guitar player who focuses on shredding and learning all of the scales and modes, but only plays in his bedroom alone?

…or the guitarist that can also sing, and also knows how to promote themselves, write songs, and book gigs?

Where I think people get tripped up is they think they have to learn how to do ALLLLL the things at once, and that is a recipe for disaster.  Imagine trying to learn Japanese, French, and German all at the same time?!

In order to properly skill stack, you have to master one thing at a time, then add the next skill.

The best way to describe it is the way a drummer learns to play the drums.  First, he starts with the hi hats…

Wait.  This would be much better explained if I show you.  Watch this πŸ‘‡πŸ»

So, to recap, being a generalist means you’re adept and versatile at many things,

but while you’re building those skills, become a part-time expert to master each skill first.

Music Recommendation

This month I’ve been realllllly feelin’ this French Jazz playlist on Spotify.

You’ll hear anything from Edith Pilaf, to Melody Gardot, to Madeleine Peyroux, to Ella Fitzgerald.

Words cannot describe how “at home” my heart feels when I listen to this style of music… whether it’s big band, jazz, swing, gypsy jazz, or ragtime, I just feel this nostalgic buzz all over my body when it’s playing (it also makes me feel “fancy” πŸ˜‚) … almost like I’m remembering a past life...  Call me an old soul ;)

P.LAB Spotlight

This month there are two rockstar students that I had to let you know about.

Starting with the P.LAB Producer Of The Month, Johnny Walker.

Johnny is, hands down, one of the BIGGEST action takers I've ever seen. πŸƒπŸ»‍♂️

He not only applies what he learns immediately, but he also BUILDS on it and makes it even BETTER. Watching his growth over the last couple of years has been nothing short of a jaw-dropper and uber inspiring!!

From beat licensing to content creation, to expanding his client base as a producer to teaching others how to play guitar, Johnny is on fi-Ya and not slowing down!

You can learn more about him by checking out this mini-documentary we made on his story.

And you can check out what Johnny’s been up to below πŸ‘‡πŸ»

I also wanted to take a second to share the outrageous success of another P.LAB Student, Aoife O’Leary!

I first met Aoife a couple years ago when she was just learning how to produce her own music. She dove head first into From Voice Memo 2 Demo, then into our other programs, and has leveled up as a producer tremendously!  I've always been blown away by her talent, determination, passion, and infectious energy!

We just celebrated her graduation from "Home Studio Boss VIP", and the latest news is that she's just landed 3 of her songs in a movie called “Code Name Banshee” featuring Antontio Banderas! πŸ₯³πŸ˜²πŸ€―

Anybody else have a major crush on him after watching Mask of Zorro? Just me? 😝

She actually co-wrote two of the three songs with another member of Home Studio Boss VIP, Danny Hines, and they met in our Collab Lab! (a collaborating system we have specifically for students)

Not only that, she’s been hired to score another movie. (She’s even getting to hang out on set with the actors and writers, how cool is that?!)  #thisgirlisonfire

To say I’m proud is an understatement.😊

You can learn more about Aoife by checking out this mini-documentary we made on her story.

And you can head over to https://www.poppymoth.com/ to see what Aofie’s got cookin.

LAUGH

Ok, this video had me on the floor, and I immediately sent it to our entire team 🀣 I just love the creativity and playfulness that went into this.  If you’ve seen the original video of that little boy, it’s even better πŸ˜‚

Education Station

As I said last month, the core of what we do here at produce like a boss is to simplify and demystify music production.

So every month, we're going to highlight one of our free resources that we think might help you on your journey in home production.

Today is another one of my faves. This is the walkthrough I did of "ARCADE," and it is one of our top-performing videos on our youtube channel.

If you're looking to upgrade your production game, this is a great resource to add to your toolbelt.

I hope you enjoyed me peeling back the curtain once again, and I'm excited to keep you posted with everything else that's coming down the pipeline!

Also, if you enjoyed this type of content and have other news you'd like to know about, please just hit reply and let me know! I love hearing from the community.πŸ€—
